Free-First Is a Business Model, Not a Trap: How Musavise Makes Money

A transparent view of a business model diagram

Musicians have earned their suspicion of free. Free tools have shrunk beneath them, sold their attention, and died with their data inside. So when we say more than two dozen tools, free, the right response is the question this post answers: *then how do you make money?*

The four streams, plainly

  • The Professional plan. Power users pay ~$79/year for expanded limits — unlimited smart links with full analytics, unlimited releases, ticketing on every show. The free tier isn't crippled to sell it: free features stay free, and Professional adds on top.
  • Labeled partnerships. Some recommended services pay us a commission. Every one is marked Sponsored — in the interface, permanently. A recommendation you can't trust is worthless to you and, eventually, to us.
  • Connections you ask for. When you request an introduction to a vetted provider — a publishing admin, a mixing engineer — we share your career summary with them, and providers pay for placement. It happens only when *you* initiate; artists never pay.
  • Anonymous industry insight. Thousands of artists using the same tools produce something no one artist has: aggregate patterns — typical gig fees, what converts on links. Those anonymized benchmarks power smarter features and industry research we may license. Nothing in them identifies you or your fans.

The incentive test

The reason to trust a business model isn't the prose — it's whether the incentives point at you. Ours require artists to keep choosing us voluntarily, forever: everything exports, so leaving is easy; sponsored is labeled, so trust survives; the free tier is genuinely useful, so the funnel is honesty. A company that profits from your success has to keep earning it. That's the whole design.

What we don't do

No paywalls on essentials. No selling your personal data. No ranking recommendations by who pays. Your fan list is never shared, rented, or messaged by us. These live in our published commitments and our privacy policy — in writing, where breaking them would cost us everything the model depends on.

Skepticism welcome. Bring your data's exit plan; we already built it for you.

Everything above lives in one free Musavise account — no credit card, no trial clock, and your data exports any time you want it. Create your free account and it's yours in about two minutes.

Stop reading about it — do it. Every tool mentioned here is free.
