How Do I Make a Press Kit (EPK) Venues Actually Take Seriously?

2026-03-31 · 2 min read

A laptop showing an artist press kit page

You email a venue, they reply 'send your EPK,' and you send… a Google Drive folder? A five-year-old Facebook page? Bookers triage dozens of these a week and give each one seconds. The EPK's job is to answer their three questions before they stop scrolling: what do you sound like, can you draw, and will you be easy to work with?

What the thirty seconds needs to find

  • One embedded song or live video at the top — their first question is always the sound; a live clip answers the second question too
  • A two-sentence bio that says the genre plainly ('indie pop, big choruses, quiet stage plot') — save the artistic statement for the long bio below
  • Numbers only if they help: monthly listeners, a strong hometown draw, a real press quote — one line each, no vanity padding
  • Logistics that signal professionalism: upcoming shows, a booking contact that isn't a DM, and a link to your stage plot

What quietly disqualifies you

Dead links, a PDF that was clearly a school project, no way to hear the music in one click, and 'DM us' as the only contact. The bar is genuinely low — clearing it puts you ahead of most of the inbox.

Build it free, at your own handle

A Musavise account gives you an EPK page at your own @handle — bio, photos, embeds, press quotes, contacts, and your upcoming shows pulled automatically from the gig tracker. It's a link you can send in any email, always current, with a print view when someone asks for 'the PDF.' Free EPK builders elsewhere run $7/month; this one is part of the free toolkit, forever.

All of it lives in one free Musavise account — free means free, within honest limits, and your data exports whenever you want it. Create your free account; it takes about two minutes.

Stop reading about it — do it. Every tool mentioned here is free.
